Our Family is Growing

To all those we love,

As you know, we have been pursuing adoption for some time now. It started 2 years ago when I read a book that challenged me to do more for the Lord. We had already talked about adopting as we knew I could no longer have children. As Ed and I discussed adoption we came to realize that this is how the Lord would provide more children for us. We felt the Lord leading us to adopt children in the foster system as opposed to going overseas and getting a child.

Fast-forward two years and we have now become licensed foster parents and have submitted our homestudy on numerous children across the country. Our prayer has been that the Lord shows us clearly which child/children we would welcome into our family.

Last week we received a call from a social worker in Florida. She said that after reading our homestudy and discussing it that we had been selected for a little girl and wanted to set up visitation! This is amazing! It doesn’t normally move this smoothly or quickly. We knew the Lord was all over this! We are now making preparations to go visit her the weekend of May 8th. If that weekend goes well we will then be required to go back for one more visit before we can bring her home. We are thrilled!

She is 3 years old and has the sweetest little face. We saw her picture on the internet and fell in love. She was born extremely premature and was removed from her family due to medical neglect. She has been with her current foster family since she was 17 months old. She has numerous special needs and is very developmentally delayed. We know that the Lord knows best though, and we welcome her with open hearts and arms.

Emma is so very excited. She can’t wait to be a big sister! We were discussing with her that her new sister will have some special needs and that she will have to share Mom and Dad. She said, “That’s ok. Dad has two sides to his lap—one for me and one for her!” She has been praying to be a big sister for so long, and it’s wonderful for her to see the Lord answer her prayers.

If all goes according to the plan, we could bring her home as early as June. We know many of you will have questions about her and we will happily answer them after we have been down to Florida and have met her. Reading a list of health terms on a piece of paper doesn’t really tell you anything about who she is as a person. We want to get to know her, and then we can share more about her with you all.

Once we bring her home, we will have to wait 90 days before we can file for adoption. We will be changing her name officially at that time, but we will be calling her by her new name from day one. We would like to introduce you to Eden Janae Konick.


This is the only picture we have of her so far, but we will take more when we go down to meet her. We hope that you will share in our excitement as we welcome our new “baby” to the family.
